Flake Holding Silo

We have a used Flake Holding Silo for sale. Integrated into the wash-plant between the granulation section and the float sink tank to provide both buffer stock storage and enable a constant precise dosing of flake into the process rate determining float sink operation, to thereby maximise the process output.

Located immediately after the friction washer, the wet flake is transferred via a two stage auger process into the flake bin. The horizontal auger transferring wet flake away from the friction washer is 1.3 metres long with a diameter of 250 mm, driven by a 1.5 kw SEW motor and gearbox delivering an auger speed of around 50 rpm. This feeds directly into a vertical auger, rising 7 metres to delver the flake into the bin, which is driven by a fast running forced air cooled 5.5kw SEW motor and gearbox, delivering an auger speed of around 330 rpm.

The flake is transferred out of the flake bin via a variable speed 4 metre long auger 250 mm diameter, driven by a 2.2 kw Nord motor and gearbox.

It then transfers into a 7 metre long fixed speed trough auger, with a 300 mm diameter base, to deliver into the float sink tank. This is driven by a 3 kw Nord motor and gearbox.

The flake bin has the capacity for two flake off-takes, and a second discharge auger, 1.5 metre long and 250 mm diameter is available, though currently this is not in use, and does not have a motor/gearbox fitted.

The flake bin is kept slowly agitated by a heavy duty 4 kw SEW motor and gearbox, delivering around 5 rpm. This serves to prevent any bridging in the hopper, to provide a degree of blending of the flake, and to allow the bin to be easily emptied when changing grades.

The bin is fitted with a Vega level detection device, which is integrated into the wash-plant and gives real time level indication. It also allows for the granulation process to operate in automatic mode, and commence re-filling of the bin when a pre-determined low level value is reached.

The system was designed and supplied by Van Beek, and installed in 2011. The main body of the flake bin is 4 meters tall and has a diameter of 2.5 metres. It sits on a frame 2.5 metres off the ground, so has an overall height of around 6.5 metres. It has a capacity of around 4 tonnes of 17 mm bottle flake, and was designed to fill and discharge at around 4 to 5 tonnes per hour.
